The IIMC Colombo Drafting Committee is composed of mediation experts who have years of experience in practising, mentoring, and teaching mediation. What makes this Drafting Committee unique is their expertise in investor-state mediation and in drafting competition cases.

Dr. Greg Bond | Co-chair

Dr. Greg Bond teaches mediation, negotiation and cross-cultural communication in commercial law and business management both at New Vision University Tbilisi, Georgia and at Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau, near Berlin, Germany. He works in business and organizations as a mediator, trainer and facilitator, particularly in workplace mediation, dialogue processes, peer coaching, and corporate team development. He has master’s in mediation from European University Viadrina and a PhD in German literature from the University of Nottingham, UK. He has published widely on mediation blogsi.e.Kluwer Mediation Blog, and has edited two books on mediation for the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris.

Amelie Huber-Starlinger | Co-chair

Amelie (Partner at tailored.solutions) is an Austria based negotiation coach, trainer and mediator registered with the list of mediators of the Austrian Ministry of Justice and accredited with SIMI (Singapore) and CEDR (England). Formerly, she worked as an Austrian qualified lawyer and represented clients in national and international arbitrations. Her focus of interest is the resolution of national and international commercial and investor-state disputes and in particular those relating to banking and finance, healthcare and pharmaceutical services, m& a transactions, corporate disputes and investment protection agreements. She frequently publishes and lectures in the field of her interest. 

Wolf Von Kumberg | Committee Member

Wolf von Kumberg is a leading independent Arbitrator, Mediator and pioneer of early-stage dispute resolution and conflict avoidance boards. He is currently a member of specialist International dispute resolution group, Arbitra International – based within the IDRC, with offices in London and Washington DC. Wolf is also the Managing Director of Global Resolution Servicesa provider of dispute resolution services and the Registrar General and CEO of the International Dispute Registry (IDR), which specializes in mediation capacity building programs for States. He has extensive experience of disputes across Aviation & Aerospace, Defence, Investor/State, Compliance, IP, Cyber Security and High-Tech Industries. Wolf is also active in international commercial and ISDS arbitration and mediation.  

Mark Appel | Committee Member

Mark Appel is an independent, international Arbitrator, Mediator, Consultant and Trainer at ArbDB Chambers, London. Mr. Appel has nearly 40 years of global arbitration and mediation experience, having served in both executive and senior executive positions at the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), leaving ICDR/AAA as Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa in December of 2015. An experienced mediator, Mr. Appel is an Honorary Director of the International Mediation Institute (IMI). , Mr. Appel served as Chair of the IMI Investor-State Mediation Task Force from 2016 until May 2020, working with state and investor representatives, experts, academics, the Energy Charter Secretariat, ICSID and UNCITRAL on investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) reform and mediation.

Julia Jung | Committee Member

Julia Jung is an independent mediator and arbitrator in commercial as well as investor-state matters. She founded Jung Legal Solutions (www.legalsolutions.law) in 2020 and has more than a decade of experience in dispute resolution. She is a Swiss qualified lawyer and holds an LL.M. in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University, Straus Institute. In 2020 she took the ICSID/ECT/CEDR Investor-State Mediator Training. She is a board member of the Swiss Chamber of Commercial Mediation and a member of the Swiss Bar Association’s Expert Committee on Mediation. She regularly teaches mediation and arbitration.

Aathika Mackie | Committee Member

Aathika Mackie holds an LLB (Hons) First Class degree from Staffordshire University, U.K. and won the Gold Medal for best performance in the Undergraduate Laws stream by graduating at the top of her class. She is currently reading for her Attorney-at-Law exams at Sri Lanka Law College as well as her Diploma in Commercial Arbitration. She is an avid Alternate Dispute Resolution enthusiast and has displayed such interest by participating in various mooting competitions such as the Sri Lanka Vis Nationals 2019 and the H.V. Perera Victor’s Moot 2019 & 2020, where her team was placed overall Runners-up. Aathika is also a proud alumnus of the Moot Court Bench and takes interest in coaching and training students on commercial arbitration and mooting.

Kandula Udawatta | Committee Member

Kandula Udawatta is an LLB (Hons) graduate from the Staffordshire University, UK, and is currently reading for his Attorney at Law exams at Sri Lanka Law College. He is a staunch advocate for the fostering of Alternative Dispute Resolution attitudes in Sri Lanka and is presently working at the Institute for the Development of Commercial Law and Practice, which is the leading organization in facilitating Arbitration/ Mediation among the Legal fraternity of Sri Lanka. Kandula has also participated in several moots during his undergraduate studies such as the Henry Dunant Moot Court Competition, and H.V. Perera QC International Commercial Arbitration Moot, and the Bucerius Mediation Competition which has enabled him to gain a lot of insight into the various aspects of ADR. He has assisted several teams in preparing for moot competitions through training and drafting mock cases and hopes to contribute to the building of a young team of ADR enthusiasts within Sri Lanka.
